Team & members

Invite the people you work with so everyone watches the same monitors, sees the same incidents, and never has to ask 'is it down?'. Here's how teams, roles and invitations work.

What a team is

Your account is also a team. Everyone you invite shares the very same monitors, alert contacts, incidents and status pages — there’s one shared set of everything, not a copy per person. Add a teammate and they can see and manage it all straight away.

The one exception is billing: only the owner can change the plan or payment details. Everything else is shared.

Note

Because everything is shared, every member can see all of your monitors and their targets. Only invite people you’re happy to give that access to.

Which plans include a team

How many people you can add depends on your plan:

PlanTeam members
SoloJust you (1 person)
TeamUnlimited
MaxUnlimited

On Solo the account is yours alone. To invite people, upgrade to Team or Max from Billing. See Plans & billing to compare plans.

Roles: owner and member

Everyone on a team has one of two roles. You’ll see each person’s role as a badge on the Team page — an Owner badge or a Team badge.

RoleCan do
OwnerEverything — including managing the plan and payment, inviting and removing people, and changing roles.
Team memberCreate and manage monitors, alert contacts, incidents and status pages. Cannot change billing or manage the team.

The person who created the account is the first owner. You can have more than one owner — handy so the team isn’t stuck if one owner is away.

Invite a teammate

Only owners can send invitations. It takes a few seconds:

  1. 1

    Open the Team page

In the dashboard, go to Team. You’ll see everyone who’s already on the account and how many seats you’re using.

  2. 2

    Enter their email

Under Invite a teammate, type the email address of the person you want to add.

  3. 3

    Send the invite

Choose Send invite. Moonitor emails them a link to join, and their invitation shows up under Pending invitations until they accept.

Tip

Invite people using the exact email address they’ll sign in with. An invitation can only be accepted by that address.

Accepting an invitation

Here’s what the person you invited does:

  1. 1

    Open the invitation link

They click the link in the invitation email.

  2. 2

Log in or create an account

If they don’t have a Moonitor account yet, they sign up first — using the same email the invite was sent to. If they already have one, they just log in.

  3. 3

Accept and land in the dashboard

They choose Accept invitation and are taken straight into the shared dashboard, with access to all the team’s monitors.

Managing members

From the Team page, an owner can keep the team tidy:

Change someone's role

Promote a member to owner (so they can manage billing and the team too), or change an owner back to a regular team member. Use this to hand over billing or add a backup owner.

Remove a member

Remove someone who no longer needs access. They lose access to the team’s monitors and data right away — the monitors themselves are untouched.

Cancel a pending invitation

Changed your mind before someone accepted? Cancel the invitation under Pending invitations and the link stops working.

Seat count

The Team page shows how many seats you’re using. On Team and Max that’s unlimited; on Solo it’s a single seat. If you’re at your limit, upgrade your plan to add more people.

Leaving a team

If you’re a team member (not the owner), you can leave a team yourself from the Team page — you’ll lose access to its monitors and data. An owner who wants to leave should first make someone else an owner, or remove themselves once another owner is in place, so the account always has someone who can manage billing.
